PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE
The Service Bureau offers members, retires and their families free, confidential assistance in a variety of human service areas. Whether called upon to assist in a crisis situation or to help in long-term planning, the Service Bureau provides a safe and nonjudgmental place for you to turn to when you need help.
The Service Bureau receives funds from the participating locals of Teamsters Joint Council 32 and the United Way.
Our staff members work with human service agencies to get you the help you need. We also provide our own programs in skill building, literacy and other areas of education.
Our extensive network of service providers offers help in these areas:
- alcohol and drug abuse
- personal/ family counseling
- compulsive gambling
- suicide prevention
- problems of children and adolescents
- family violence
- financial problems
- social security
- insurance problems
- pension issues
- consumer problems
- other areas you and Service Bureau staff identify
THE FIRST STEP
Here’s what you can expect when you contact the Service Bureau:
- personal service from trained Service Bureau staff
- help in identifying specific problems and needs
- options in finding solutions
- referrals to appropriate programs for assistance
- support throughout the process
- follow-up to make sure the problem is resolved
All requests for assistance and all help provided to members and their families are kept strictly confidential. When you contact the Service Bureau, you can be sure that your questions and concerns will be handled privately and by skilled professional staff.
HELP WHEN AND WHERE YOU NEED IT
Since the Service Bureau opened in 1986:
- Thousands of Teamsters and their families have received help
- 90 grants from the State of Minnesota and the U.S. Department of Labor helped provide services to nearly 15,000 dislocated workers from more than 150 companies.
- Southeast Asians and Hispanics received assistance through the Service Bureau’s bicultural/bilingual Immigrant Employment Project.
- The Skills for Tomorrow High School, established by the Service Bureau in partnership with the University of Minnesota, the Rockford School District and the Minnesota Business Partnership, has served over 150 students since opening in 1994.
- Nearly 2,750 workers received workplace learning services through three U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Department of Labor demonstration projects.
- Working with the Teamsters Education Program, the Service Bureau provides training in labor studies for Minnesota high school teachers.
